Spain will promote that Ceuta and Melilla improve their fiscality as outermost regions like the Canaries

The president of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced that Spain will ask the European Commission that Ceuta and Melilla advance towards integration in the European customs union and obtain a favorable tax regime linked to recognition as outermost regions, a similar status to what the Canary Islands already have. Sánchez made this announcement during his intervention in Congress to inform about the migratory crisis in Ceuta. The president also revealed an expansion of 100 million euros of the economic support plan for the city, which will be added to the 309 million already approved by the Council of Ministers. The announcement comes in the context of the migratory crisis that affected Ceuta, a Spanish autonomous city in North Africa.
