Google and Apple changed the name of Lake Ontario on their maps to "Lake America," at the request of President Donald Trump. This change was implemented on the mapping platforms of both companies.
The change applies only to users outside of Canada. Those who access the maps from Canadian territory will continue to see the original name, "Lake Ontario," according to a brief statement from Google.
The name change comes in the context of trade tensions between the United States and Canada, which included Trump's threats to impose high tariffs on Canadian products and comments about the possibility of Canada becoming the 51st American state.
