The Municipality of Loulé has launched a challenge to the community to find the oldest dog in the municipality, as part of the Loulé Animal Festival which takes place during the month of October. The initiative aims to mark Senior Dog Day, celebrated on October 1st, and raise awareness about the specific care and needs of senior animals.
To participate, owners must send a photograph of the dog and a photograph of the respective Health Record, which proves the date of birth, by September 25th. Entries must be sent to the address [email protected], with the subject "My dog is the oldest in the municipality".
The three oldest dogs will be announced on October 1st. The winner will receive a photo session with the owner and a bag of food with a number of kilograms corresponding to the animal's age. The second and third place finishers will also receive bags of food with kilograms equivalent to the ages of their respective dogs.
The choice of October 1st is not coincidental, as the date simultaneously celebrates International Senior Day and Senior Dog Day. With this action, the council aims to raise awareness among owners about the changes and needs that arise with the aging of animals, as well as encourage the responsible adoption of older animals that remain in shelters.
