Chief Superintendent Luís Elias, commander of the Lisbon PSP, publicly advocated the need for "less alarmist rhetoric" about security in the capital, simultaneously warning about the scarcity of human resources in the police forces.
The official stated that the Cometlis area, which covers the Lisbon metropolitan area, is operating with "minimum staffing" to meet all operational needs of the region.
Luís Elias underscored the importance of strengthening PSP personnel as a way to ensure an adequate response to the security demands of the Portuguese capital.
The commander's position arises in a context of public debate about security in Lisbon, where the chief superintendent seeks to balance the need for resources with more moderate communication about the challenges faced by the police.
