The Municipality of Loulé has launched a competition to identify the oldest registered dog in the municipality, as part of the Loulé Animal Festival taking place throughout the month of October. The initiative is linked to Senior Dog Day, celebrated on October 1st, coinciding with International Day of Older Persons, seeking to raise awareness about the specific needs of elderly animals and encourage responsible adoption of older animals in shelters.
Interested owners can apply until September 25th, submitting a photo of the dog along with the Health Record, the document that serves to verify the date of birth. The documentation must be sent to the email address [email protected], with the subject line "My dog is the oldest in the municipality."
The three oldest dogs will be announced on October 1st. The first-place winner will receive a photo session with the owner and a bag of dog food whose weight, in kilograms, will correspond to the animal's age. Second and third place winners will also receive dog food in quantities equivalent to the ages of their respective dogs.
The municipality reminds that dogs, like humans, undergo significant changes with aging, requiring greater attention from their owners. The municipality thus aims to raise awareness among the population about the importance of providing dignified and healthy aging to companion animals.
