The love strawberry, which went viral on social media last year, is made with the fruit covered in a layer of white brigadeiro, wrapped in a hard shell of crunchy red-dyed caramel, similar to a candied apple. This year, a new trend promises to take over social media: the cravejado strawberry. The main difference lies in how the caramel glaze is prepared and applied. While the love strawberry uses caramel as a hard coating, the cravejado breaks the caramel into small red crystals and mixes them into the melted white chocolate that coats the fruit.
Those who have tried the cravejado strawberry say it is softer to bite, less cloying, and has a sprinkled crunchy texture. It is precisely this crunchiness that gives the name "cravejado" (嵌入, meaning embedded or studded with). Both sweets have white chocolate brigadeiro around the fruit, but the caramel application is what differentiates the two recipes.
Nutritionist Priscilla Primi comments that both sweets are considered "calorie bombs." However, the love strawberry has slightly fewer calories because it does not have the layer of white chocolate on the outside, which the cravejado strawberry does have.
