Former Attorney General of Brazil Claudio Fonteles stated that the case involving the company Master represents the biggest crisis of the Supreme Court (STF). According to Fonteles, the current PGR, Paulo Gonet, should step aside from the case, just as Justice Alexandre de Moraes should be investigated for the alleged irregularities pointed out in the proceedings.
Fonteles criticized the request to annul the Federal Police report made by Gonet. The document had been produced at the request of STF Justice André Mendonça, who is also involved in the case. In the former PGR's assessment, there is no legal basis to invalidate the report prepared by the Federal Police.
The Master case involves investigations into alleged irregularities in judicial decisions related to the company. The controversy revolves around Federal Police reports that were produced under questioned circumstances, generating an impasse between different justices of the court.
Fonteles's statement represents a rare critical position coming from a former head of the Federal Public Ministry, increasing pressure on the handling of the case within the STF and on Gonet's performance as head of the PGR.
