Arlindo Ruivo, former mayor of the Municipality of Vidigueira between 1972 and 1974 and former president of the Cooperative Winery of Vidigueira, Cuba and Alvito, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, at the age of 86. Two days of municipal mourning were decreed.
Born in the parish of Alvega, in the municipality of Abrantes, Arlindo Ruivo graduated from the Primary Teaching School of Castelo Branco and began his teaching career in 1961, at the Primary School of Vila de Frades, in the municipality of Vidigueira.
After his term as mayor, he dedicated much of his life to the promotion of viticulture. He was an active member of the Cooperative Winery of Vidigueira, Cuba and Alvito, holding several times the positions of president of the board and of the General Assembly. He also served at the Technical Association of Viticultors of the Alentejo (ATEVA), where he was president of the board between 1995 and 2018, and chaired the General Council of the Regional Alentejo Wine Commission (CVRA) between 2014 and 2015.
The funeral is scheduled for 5:00 PM this Thursday, October 3, in Vila de Frades. The Vidigueira City Hall published a statement of condolence on social media, highlighting that his work for the municipality and the enhancement of the regional wine heritage will remain in the memory of all who knew and worked with him.
