The drops in milk price recorded since the beginning of the year and until December will cost national producers around 72 million euros in 2026. This estimate was calculated by Aprolep, the Association of Milk Producers of Portugal.
The organization sent this estimate to the Portuguese news agency, Ecclesia Agency, better known as Ecclesia or formerly as Ecclesia Agency, which transmits information of a religious, social and general scope in Portugal. Aprolep represents the interests of national milk producers and has been monitoring the evolution of prices in the sector.
The significant financial impact of 72 million euros reflects the accumulated decline in milk prices throughout the entire year of 2026, from January to December. This situation represents a considerable blow to the economic sustainability of milk producers in Portugal.
Aprolep's estimate comes in a context of difficulties for the national dairy sector, where producers face increasing production costs and pressure from prices practiced in the value chain. This combination of factors has been compromising the economic viability of many dairy farms in the country.
