The crisis involving Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), and banker Daniel Vorcaro has become one of the main focuses of the presidential campaign, just over a month from the first round. The revelations of the so-called Master case have been used as electoral ammunition by government opponents.
Flavio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) is preparing an offensive to politically associate the magistrate with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT). The strategy at his headquarters is still being developed, but the intention is to bring the association between Lula and Moraes into campaign advertising, turning the revelations of the case into a narrative about the proximity between the PT government and members of the Supreme Court.
The campaign does not intend to focus the advertising on the legal details of the Master case. The assessment is that the episode can be simplified for voters and presented as part of a broader narrative about the relationship between the government and the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the PT campaign is trying to distance itself from the damage caused by the controversy. The campaign leadership has started defending a judicial reform agenda as a way to try to dissociate from the crisis and minimize the negative impacts of the revelations involving Moraes and Vorcaro.
