Mozambique currently has at least 56 health units administering the injectable medication lenacapavir for HIV infection prevention. These units are distributed across 16 districts of the country, representing a milestone in the fight against the spread of the virus.
The Mozambican Ministry of Health told the Lus news agency that approximately 15,700 people already benefit from this preventive treatment. Lenacapavir is a long-acting injectable medication that offers an alternative to traditional HIV prevention methods.
The Mozambican government expressed the intention to extend the coverage of the program to more districts and health units, in order to expand access to this prevention tool for more vulnerable populations across the national territory.
