A jury in Malta acquitted businessman Yorgen Fenech, the main suspect of having commissioned the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. The verdict was announced after a lengthy trial related to the corruption case known as "Gasoline," which involved allegedly fraudulent energy contracts.

Yorgen Fenech was arrested in 2019 as he was leaving Malta aboard his yacht. His arrest sparked mass protests across the country, which ultimately culminated in Prime Minister Joseph Muscat's resignation.

Daphne Caruana Galizia was a well-known Maltese investigative journalist who was assassinated in 2017 through a car bomb. Her case became a symbol of the fight for press freedom and the rule of law in Malta.
