Moraes and Mendonça's Factions Map Out Support While Awaiting Fachin's Decision on Investigation

Factions linked to Justices Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça of the Supreme Federal Court have begun mapping out support among the Court's members for an eventual plenary vote on the Federal Police report containing messages from banker Daniel Vorcaro of Banco Master. Mendonça requested a collegial analysis, but the decision to include the matter on the agenda depends on the president of the STF, Edson Fachin.

Mendonça's interlocutors assess that the elements gathered so far justify opening an investigation into Vorcaro's relationship with Moraes. According to this group, there is a majority on the Court if the matter is submitted to the plenary.

On the other side, justices closer to Moraes show resistance to opening an investigation against the magistrate. The resistance is justified not only by the Court's exposure but also by what these justices considered a rush by Mendonça on the investigation.
