Lula holds event to say he "zeroed out" the INSS queue, but the count disregards those waiting for benefits for less than 45 days

The Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva government will hold an event at the Palácio do Planalto to announce that it zeroed out the INSS queue. The announcement was made during a meeting of the National Social Security Council (CNPS), when the INSS reported that the queue of requests to obtain benefits dropped to 1.282 million in August, partial data as of the 24th of the month. According to a note from the Ministry of Social Security, this is the lowest level since 2023.

Despite the announcement, thousands of people are still awaiting analysis of their requests. The Executive branch considers these beneficiaries to be within the legal deadline, as they have been waiting for less than 45 days, the maximum period established for the analysis of requests.

In January of this year, 3.073 million benefit requests were waiting in the queue. The 59% reduction represents a significant drop in the volume of people waiting for INSS service, indicating an improvement in the agency's indicators.

The new political map of Burriana fails to unblock the 2026 budget

The departure of Daniel Gutiérrez from Vox and his move to the group of non-attached councilors has again altered the composition of the Burriana town council. However, this latest change in the plenary does not seem to open, at least for now, the door to a negotiation to approve the 2026 municipal budget, presented at the beginning of the year by the PP executive (which governs in minority with eight councilors) and which continues without the necessary support for its approval.
