Former mayor Eduardo Paes (PSD) escalated the tone of attacks against Douglas Ruas (PL) in the race for governor of Rio de Janeiro. In the electoral advertisement aired on radio and TV this Monday, Paes accused the opponent of enriching himself during his political career and of benefiting from nepotism at the beginning of his trajectory when appointed in the São Gonçalo city hall, when the administration was commanded by his father, Captain Nelson (PL).
In the advertising piece, the PSD candidate sought to link Douglas Ruas to politicians already known to the fluminense electorate. The video starts calling Ruas "heir apparent" and ends with the slogan "our state can't take another Castro," attempting to associate him with former governor Cláudio Castro (PL) and former deputy Rodrigo Bacellar (União).
Unlike the first week of the campaign, when he appeared in the electoral program, this Monday's advertisement did not feature Paes. The former mayor preferred to direct the attacks directly at opponent Douglas Ruas.
The race for governor of Rio also involves other candidates. Jordy and Portinho concentrated their attacks on Pedro Paulo and Benedita, while Crivella was the target of criticism during a Senate debate, as mentioned in the article.
