Hugo Soares defends Luís Neves, attacks Ventura and takes a shot at Seguro: doesn't believe the President "sends messages through friends"

Expresso3 September 2026 at 00:11

Hugo Soares, parliamentary leader of PSD, defended Luís Neves from Chega's attacks, considering the motion presented by that party as "ridiculous". The social-democrat also questioned why André Ventura doesn't speak more frequently about the robbery of his office, at a time when the far-right party has intensified criticisms of the executive.

The PSD leader in parliament also showed himself skeptical about the existence of an alleged ultimatum from the President of the Republic, declaring that he does not believe the President "sends messages through friends". This position comes in the context of political tensions between the PSD/CDS executive and Chega.

Regarding the State Budget, Hugo Soares responded to another of the conditions set by PS, led by Pedro Santos Seguro, without specifying what the socialists' demands would be. The parliamentary leader of PSD thus maintains the party's position of not yielding to pressure from other parties for the approval of the budget document.

Hugo Soares' statements come at a time of growing political tension, with PSD trying to defend its positions both against Chega and PS, while the government seeks to guarantee conditions for the approval of the State Budget for the next year.

The new political map of Burriana fails to unblock the 2026 budget

The departure of Daniel Gutiérrez from Vox and his move to the group of non-attached councilors has again altered the composition of the Burriana town council. However, this latest change in the plenary does not seem to open, at least for now, the door to a negotiation to approve the 2026 municipal budget, presented at the beginning of the year by the PP executive (which governs in minority with eight councilors) and which continues without the necessary support for its approval.
