By the end of August, the burned area in Portugal registered a reduction of 74% compared to the same period last year. According to available data, in the first eight months of 2025, 254 thousand hectares had been consumed, while in the same period of 2026 only 67 thousand hectares were reached.
This significant decrease is largely due to the rain that fell in the country during this period, contributing to reducing the risk of fires and the spread of flames.
The numbers indicate a reversal compared to the scenario seen in the previous year, when Portugal faced one of the worst fire seasons in terms of burned area.
