The main index of the São Paulo Stock Exchange, the Ibovespa, closed up for the 11th consecutive session on Wednesday, reaching 185,074 points, the highest level since May 6. The preliminary advance was 2.98%. Simultaneously, the dollar retreated to R$5.10.
According to analysts consulted by the publication, the positive performance was driven by the Quaest poll, released during the morning. The survey showed a tightening race between presidential candidates, with Senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL) and former President Lula (PT) separated by just one percentage point in a potential second round.
Nicolas Borsoi, chief strategist at Tulett Prebon, said that the primary factor for the improvement in Brazilian assets was the reduction in Lula's lead in the electoral polls for the second round. According to him, this narrowing of the gap has contributed to an overall market recovery.
