The non-governmental organization Reporters Without Borders called for an inquiry into the disappearance of journalist Moussa Kaka, director of a private television station in Niger. The journalist left his office in Niamey, the capital of the country, on August 31st, around 7pm, to return home, but never arrived at his destination.
Moussa Kaka is director of a private television station and has been missing since late August. The NGO Reporters Without Borders noted that the disappearance of critical voices in Niger is a practice that has been repeated in the country.
Niger is currently governed with an "iron fist" by a military junta, which according to the organization creates a hostile environment for journalists and critical figures of the regime. Reporters Without Borders made an appeal to the Nigerien authorities to investigate the case and guarantee the safety of media professionals in the country.
