The Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro, will host the opening match and final of the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, which will be held in Brazil between June 24 and July 25. The confirmation was made by FIFA, in Zurich, during the presentation of the calendar for the 64 matches of the tournament. The opening will have a particular significance for Brazilian football: the women's national team will return to play at the Rio stadium more than a decade after their last appearance at the venue, which occurred on August 16, 2016, during the Rio Olympic Games, in a semi-final against Sweden that ended 0-0 and in which Brazil was eliminated in a penalty shootout.

The Brazilian national team begins its World Cup campaign at the Maracanã on June 24, 2027, as the host nation of Group A. The remaining first phase matches will be held at Arena Itaquera, in São Paulo, and at the Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha, in Brasília. The competition will take place in eight host cities, all of them used by Brazil in the 2014 men's World Cup: Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife, Salvador, and São Paulo. The Brazilian bid received 119 votes at the FIFA Congress that decided the host in May 2024, surpassing the joint proposal from Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

The 2027 Women's World Cup will be the first held in South America and the second consecutive edition contested by 32 teams. As of August 27, 2026, 18 teams had already qualified, including Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia. Fourteen spots remain to be filled through Concacaf qualifiers, European play-offs, and the FIFA Play-off Tournament. The final composition should be completed before the final draw, scheduled for December 11, 2026, at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro. The 2027 edition will be the tenth of the tournament, which will expand from 32 to 48 participants in 2031.
