Court jester of January 8th and political clique: Celina and Cappelli exchange accusations in debate for the government of DF

oglobo2 September 2026 at 18:31

The candidates for the government of the Federal District, Celina Leão (PP) and Ricardo Cappelli (PSB), participated on Tuesday night in a debate held by Correio Braziliense and TV Brasília. The confrontation between the two candidates was marked by exchanges of accusations and mutual criticism.

Public transportation was the theme that initiated the main confrontation of the debate. Cappelli chose the topic to question Celina and displayed his mobility card during the question. The PSB candidate criticized what he classified as the deterioration of the system and mentioned problems faced by residents of regions such as Araponga, Brazlândia, and Sol Nascente.

Governor Celina Leão responded to the criticisms using Cappelli's role in the January 8 crisis as an attack argument. Celina questioned the opposing candidate about his supposed heroism in the episode: "You think you're the hero of January 8th, candidate? You are the court jester of January 8th," the governor stated during the debate.
