The governor of the Federal District, Celina Leão, requested a meeting with Finance Minister Fernando Dario Durigan to discuss a R$ 6.6 billion loan requested from the Credit Guarantee Fund (FGC) for the Bank of Brasília (BRB). The meeting was denied by the federal government's economic team.
According to sources from the economic team, there was no justification for the meeting request, as there would be no "new fact" to be discussed on the topic. The Finance Ministry's assessment is that the request did not bring elements that would justify a new round of conversations.
The economic team believes that Celina Leão is using institutional instruments to pressure the Union, especially due to the proximity of elections. The objective would be to pressure the federal government to grant Treasury backing for the loan requested from the FGC.
The Treasury's refusal was explained by this political reading of the situation, in which the governor would be trying to obtain approval for the loan through institutional pressure, and not by the technical merit of the demand.
