Espaço 260, located in the Municipal Auditorium Building of Ribeira de Pena, hosts an exhibition dedicated to the work of Américo do Enjeitado, a self-taught craftsman who dedicated the last years of his life to building wooden miniatures. The initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Ribeira de Pena, aims to preserve and give visibility to this artist's legacy, bringing it closer to new generations and the general public.
Américo do Enjeitado was born in 1939, in Penaformosa, in the parish of Cerva e Limões, where he lived his entire life. Although he worked as a shoemaker, it was in carpentry, a craft he learned on his own, that he found his main form of creative expression. His work in wood preserves memories, traditions and references of local heritage.
Among the exhibited works, the miniature of the Church of Cerva stands out, a piece that Américo do Enjeitado was still working on when he died. This unfinished work gained a particularly symbolic dimension and constitutes one of the most striking testimonies of his artistic journey. Over the years, the craftsman was building piece by piece a body of work that today also holds documentary value, as a record of local identity.
The exhibition can be visited daily, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, at Espaço 260. More than just showing craft pieces, the exhibition recovers part of the memory of a man who found in wood a way to represent his land and his experiences, revealing a deep connection between art, territory and identity.
