There are at least two thousand water catchments to regularize in Portugal, between boreholes, ponds and wells. The actual number should exceed four thousand, according to a survey conducted by the National Association of Corn and Sorghum Producers (Anpromis).
Many regularization requests were lost in the system, without the owners having any knowledge of this. This situation created an accumulation of pending processes and made the legalization process of these water catchments more difficult.
Anpromis conducted a survey to understand the scale of the problem, identifying thousands of catchments that are not yet in regular status. The association warned of the need to resolve this issue, which affects agricultural producers across the country.
