André Mendonça, former attorney general of the union and current justice of the Supreme Court, admitted to having met with businessman José Augusto Vorcaro. According to Mendonça, the meeting took place at a restaurant, and he limited himself to listening to what Vorcaro had to say, without making promises or agreements.
The publication about the meeting happened one day after Mendonça removed the confidentiality seal from a Federal Police report. This document gathers information about the contacts between Vorcaro and Justice Alexandre de Moraes, also of the Supreme Court.
The PF report mentions that Vorcaro allegedly offered money to a court employee, in addition to mentioning alleged irregularities involving Justice Moraes and his daughter. Moraes's defense denies all accusations and states that it is a defamation campaign.
Mendonça was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Jair Bolsonaro. The decision to disclose the meeting was interpreted as an attempt to demonstrate transparency, especially after the controversies involving the court's inner workings and the investigations into Vorcaro's contacts with authorities.
