Albufeira admits closing Rua dos Bares to traffic

Observador2 September 2026 at 17:52

The Albufeira City Council admits closing Rua dos Bares to vehicle traffic. The municipality acknowledges that previous attempts to reconcile vehicle and pedestrian circulation in that area have resulted in an unsustainable situation, described as "a vulnerability that cannot coexist."

The decision comes in response to growing safety concerns regarding that street, which is part of the city's well-known nighttime leisure area. The municipality acknowledges that the coexistence of cars and pedestrians in that area is not viable.

The council commits to implementing physical protection solutions in the area and developing a security diagnosis for the entire municipality. These measures aim to guarantee the safety of residents and tourists who frequent the area.

The closure of Rua dos Bares to traffic would represent a significant change in mobility for that area of Albufeira, which during the summer months hosts a large number of visitors.
