Motion of censure from Chega will be the first against the current Government and the third against Montenegro's executives

dnoticias.pt2 September 2026 at 17:29

Chega announced today a motion of censure against the XXV Constitutional Government, led by Luís Montenegro. This is the first motion of censure directed at the current PSD/CDS-PP executive.

This motion represents the third time that André Ventura's party presents a censure against Luís Montenegro's executives. In total, it will be the 37th motion of censure in democracy in Portugal.

For Chega, led by André Ventura, this will be the fourth time it uses this parliamentary instrument. In the two previous occasions, during the XV legislative session, they targeted the last PS Government led by António Costa. With the motion announced today, it makes two censures against AD executives.

In the history of Portuguese democracy, the parliamentary motions of censure against the Government have been rejected, according to the text (which appears cut off).
