The parish of Vila Chã, in Vila do Conde, issued an alert after several parishioners were contacted via private messages on social networks by someone impersonating Father Emanuel Amorim. The scammers claim the priest has an urgent debt to pay and send an IBAN number, requesting immediate transfers.
The parish priest completely denied any request for money, ensuring he has no debts, does not request financial support via message, and that it is all just a scam attempt. The parish states in a communique that the priest is not requesting any amount and appeals to the community to ignore suspicious contacts.
The alert is particularly important in Vila do Conde, where the proximity between parish and community is strong. At least one complaint has already been filed with the GNR, which is monitoring the situation. The parish assures it will continue to inform the faithful and asks for heightened attention to any contact that improperly uses the priest's name.
