FIBA announced the main changes to the Official Basketball Rules for 2026, which will be implemented worldwide starting October 1. These changes come within the scope of the new 2026/27 sports season and cover various game situations that will now be clarified.
The body that governs world basketball decided to review the rules with the aim of making their application more proportional to different competitive contexts. The intention is to guarantee a more consistent and fair interpretation by the refereeing teams.
The changes also include the reinforcement of tools available to referees during games, providing them with greater support for decision-making in complex situations. These changes are expected to contribute to a clearer and smoother game.
