Workers' Committee of Lusotv calls on Aguiar-Branco to intervene over threats from Chega deputy

Eco2 September 2026 at 16:29

The Workers' Committee of the Lusotv News Agency repudiated on Wednesday the threats and insults made by Chega deputy Pedro Frazão, calling on the president of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, to take a position on what it considered a "serious threat from an elected deputy."

In a video posted on social media, Pedro Frazão, who is also vice-president of the National Directorate of Chega, insulted the integrity of Lusotv's journalists in the production of news texts and threatened to pursue them, also admitting, as a political act, the closure of the agency.

In the message sent to the president of the Assembly of the Republic, the Lusotv WC stated that the agency's professionals are not intimidated, are independent, and are governed by ethical standards. The committee stressed that Lusotv's journalists have never been, are not, and never will be obedient to political parties, religions, economic groups, sports clubs, or any ideology.

The Lusotv News Direction, contacted about the matter, declined to comment.
