Benfica formalized the signing of El Karouani, a 25-year-old Moroccan international left-back, on loan with a purchase option. The arrival of the defender at the Estádio da Luz generated immediate reactions in the football world, particularly from former players of the red and white club.
Julian Weigl, a German midfielder who played for Benfica, reacted to the post of the red and white reinforcement on Instagram with words of encouragement. The former Eagles player left a direct message to his former teammate: "Go and shine, my brother. This club is special", showing admiration for the Lisbon institution.
The two footballers crossed paths for about a month at Al Qadsiah, a team from Saudi Arabia, where Karouani was signed in the current transfer window. However, the defender never played an official match for the Saudi team before heading to Lisbon.
The Moroccan international stated he is fully motivated and excited for this new sporting challenge in the Portuguese capital, where he will have the opportunity to wear the red and white colors.
