Tiger Woods pleads guilty to 'reckless driving' and has license suspended for five years

The American golfer Tiger Woods pleaded guilty in court this Thursday to the crime of "reckless driving," related to the car accident he suffered in February, in Florida. The athlete was seriously injured when the vehicle he was driving went off the road on a Los Angeles highway.

Woods, 45 years old, accepted a one-year probation sentence and saw his driver's license suspended for a period of five years. The golfer will also have to attend a road safety education program and perform community service.

The 15-time major champion did not face any charges for driving under the influence of alcohol or psychoactive substances, having been cleared of these suspicions after medical examinations were carried out. The authorities concluded that the accident resulted exclusively from excessive speed and driving errors.

The incident occurred when Woods lost control of the vehicle at a speed far exceeding the limit allowed on the road, with the car rolling over several times before coming to a stop in a wooded area. The athlete was left with serious leg injuries that required multiple surgeries and that put his professional career in jeopardy.
