The new Quaest research commissioned by GLOBO and TV Globo reveals that president Lula (PT) is considered by 49% of respondents the best option for the left, while senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL) is seen as the best choice for the right by 33% of respondents. This unprecedented question at the institute allows measuring the electorate's perception of each side of the political spectrum.
In the first round, Lula leads with 37%, followed by Flavinho with 30% and Cury with 10%. In the second round, the two main candidates would have a tight race with a technical tie, but Lula would defeat all other rivals.
Lula has dominated the left for decades since the 1989 election. The Workers' Party member is now running for president for the seventh time and attempting his fourth victory, although 46% of respondents do not see him as the best choice for the progressive camp.
Flavio Bolsonaro assumed the candidacy after his father, Jair Bolsonaro, who is imprisoned for attempted coup, chose him as successor in December of last year. The research shows that the political scenario remains polarized between the two camps.
