The "Ponto de Encontro" movement will begin this Friday a round of debates across the country dedicated to mandatory military service. The civil platform, which positions itself as a space for discussion and reflection, decided to bring to public debate a topic that has been generating divergent opinions in Portuguese society.
The debate itinerary will start in the city of Coimbra, then continue to Lisbon, where the conclusion of this itinerant initiative is planned. The format of debates in several cities allows, according to the organizers, to broaden participation and collect diverse perspectives from different regions of the country.
Mandatory military service has been the subject of discussion in Portugal in recent years, with voices in favor of and against its reintroduction. The "Ponto de Encontro" movement positions itself as an intervener in the public conversation about the topic, seeking to promote an in-depth analysis of the implications of a possible mandatory military service.
