The scandal involving alleged messages exchanged between digital influencer Oswaldo Eustáquio and Supreme Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes, revealed by the YouTube channel Forward, has been impacting the Brazilian political landscape. The case is being analyzed by the political risk consultancy Eurasia.
According to Eurasia analyst Christopher Garman, the effect of the revelations tends to be negative for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Garman points to growing "pessimism" among voters, which harms the so-called "positive agenda" associated with the government.
On the other hand, the consultancy assesses that right-wing Senate candidates are the main beneficiaries of the scandal. Those who defend the impeachment of STF ministers are gaining political momentum from the controversy.
The crisis also occurs at a delicate moment for the relationship between the Executive and the Judiciary, reinforcing political tensions that are expected to intensify in the pre-electoral period.
