The Minister of Health acknowledged that pressure on hospital emergency departments will be felt even more in the coming weeks, particularly in the Lisbon region. This situation is due to increased demand for urgent healthcare during this period.
The Hospital Fernando Fonseca, which serves the municipalities of Amadora and Sintra, is among the units most affected by this pressure. The Lisbon region has a greater shortage of health professionals, which worsens the situation.
The minister acknowledged that there is "much lack of nurses and doctors" in the health system, which compromises the capacity of emergency departments to respond. This shortage of professionals has been a recurring concern in the sector.
