Jornal de Mafra2 September 2026 at 14:05

The Monumental Square of Santo Antão do Tojal, in Loures, hosts on September 5 another edition of "A Day at the Palace", an initiative integrated in the Memorial Route of the Convent dedicated to the enhancement of the historical and cultural heritage of the municipality of Loures. The event takes place from 3:00 PM at the Palace of the Archbishops.

The program includes a conference-concert at 3:00 PM about what music would have sounded like in the time of D. João V, with the "rediscovery" of a replica of a harpsichord from 1724 belonging to the collection of the National Museum of Music, currently housed in the Royal Building of Mafra. The session will be led by Edward Ayres de Abreu, director of the National Museum of Music.

The program continues at 4:00 PM with a concert by harpsichordist Hélder Sousa, performed on the harpsichord that serves as the theme of the conference, presenting a repertoire that illustrates the transition between the Iberian musical tradition of the 17th century and the Italianate musical tradition that characterized the reign of D. João V. At 5:00 PM, Mariana Fernandes, from the National Museum of Costume, leads a guided visit to the tile panels of the staircase and ceremonial rooms about clothing in the 18th century, followed at 5:30 PM by a workshop on fan decoration with baroque inspiration.

Participation in the event is free, but requires prior registration until September 4, with access subject to the capacity of the space.
