The new Quaest poll, commissioned by TV Globo and O GLOBO newspaper, shows that disapproval of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's (PT) government remained stable. According to the survey, 48% disapprove of the president's management, while 45% approve. The remaining 7% did not know or did not respond. This was the first survey by the institute since the start of the electoral campaign.
In the past month, Lula suffered setbacks after the Federal Police opened three investigations into suspected wrongdoing involving Fábio Luiz, the president's son. The investigations examine influence peddling in the Health Ministry, favoritism at Dataprev, and illicit business dealings in the government.
The new Quaest data indicate that the PF investigations have, so far, had no effect on Lula's overall approval ratings. However, the president's disapproval rose six points among young people aged 16 to 24, going from 47% to 53%.
