The first Quaest poll conducted after the start of free electoral advertising on TV and radio, commissioned by O GLOBO newspaper and TV Globo, shows President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in a technical tie in the second-round simulation against Senator Flaviano Bolsonaro (PL). The petista scores 42% of voting intentions, against 41% of his opponent.
Compared to the previous poll, released on August 14th, there was a decrease in the distance between the two candidates, which went from three points to one percentage point. The result reflects the impact of the free electoral airtime and insertions in programming.
Besides the start of advertising, candidates had what were considered decisive moments in recent days, especially the interview granted to TV Globo. The tight race highlights the polarization between the two main names in the electoral race.
The new poll was also the first Quaest poll to test a second-round scenario between Lula and writer and psychiatrist Augusto Cury (Avante), a candidate who experienced a boom on social media in recent weeks and had been standing out in electoral polls conducted by phone or online. He appears with 34% in the projection.
