The University of Coimbra will hold next Friday, the 4th, the first of three welcome sessions for students from mobility programs entering the institution in the first semester of 2026/27. Provisional figures indicate that more than 1,500 students from programs such as Erasmus are arriving at UC, representing a 9% increase compared to the 1,343 from the same period the previous year and the highest value ever recorded at this time of year.

The main event takes place at 2:30 PM at the Auditorium of the Central Unit of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, at Pólo II. On this occasion, MEP Marta Temido and the Consul-General of Portugal in San Francisco, Filipe Ramalheira, will be invested as UC Alumni Ambassadors. The following sessions are scheduled for the 14th and 16th of September, with the participation of the Vice-Rector for External Relations and Alumni, João Nuno Calvão da Silva.

With application phases still ongoing, the number of submissions received has already reached 1,695, 8% more than in the same period the previous year. The officials anticipate that UC should surpass last year's record, when it received 2,231 incoming mobility students.

CAP presents opinion on integrated management of forest fire risks to the European Parliament

The CAP Secretary-General, Luís Mira, presented to the European Parliament the opinion he drafted on integrated management of forest fire risks in the EU, approved in July by the European Economic and Social Committee. The hearing took place in the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, where Mira emphasized that the document represents a structural break with the current firefighting model, arguing that the EU should approach rural fires as a permanent civil security emergency, and not as a seasonal phenomenon or geographically limited to southern Europe. The opinion also advocates that forest fire management should be considered a sovereignty issue for Member States.
