The Quaest poll, the first after TV Globo's sabbatical interviews with presidential candidates, revealed an expressive leap for Augusto Cury (Avante) in the electoral race. The writer went from 2% to 10% of voting intentions, overtaking Renan Santos (Missão) and taking third place among the best-positioned presidential candidates. The growth was driven mainly by voters who declare themselves independent in political identification, that is, neither left nor right.
The poll was commissioned by TV Globo and the newspaper O GLOBO. In a possible runoff against Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), Augusto Cury appears with 34% of voting intentions, while the PT candidate would have 40%.
The advance in the polls occurs after the Avante candidate registered significant growth also in the online environment. According to the Digital Popularity Index (IPD), from Quaest itself, Cury jumped from 32.9 points in the week ending August 16 to 54.5 points in a subsequent period.
