MATEUS HOUSE HOSTS STAGED READING WITH TEXTS CREATED IN WRITING WORKSHOP

Canal N – Notícias – Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro2 September 2026 at 13:44

The Fundação da Casa de Mateus and Teatro da Rainha present on September 12 the result of the Writing Workshop – Staged Reading, an initiative that bridges literature and theatre. The session is scheduled for 5:00 PM and will take place at the Parque da Casa de Mateus in Vila Real, where the audience will be guided through a journey featuring ten scenic moments.

The scenes are based on texts developed during the Writing and New Dramaturgies Workshops, led by Manuel Portela and Henrique Manuel Bento Fialho. The presentation will be performed by the actors of Teatro da Rainha, giving a performative dimension to the works created during the writing process.

The initiative proposes a different way of engaging with literary and theatrical creation, using the outdoor spaces of Casa de Mateus as a stage for the presentation of the texts. The activity is free and open to the public.

Chronicle by Paulo Freitas do Amaral evoking childhood memories in Cruz Quebrada, in Oeiras, describing the now nearly extinct habit of "family whistles" - unique sounds each family used to call their children home, especially at dinner time. The author narrates how these sound communications allowed children to play freely in the streets while parents maintained contact at a distance. Despite modern technology having replaced this tradition, the author reveals he still uses his mother's whistle in supermarkets when they lose each other, proving certain habits can survive over time. The text ends with a nostalgic appeal to preserve and transmit this practice to new generations.
