MIRANDELA AND BRAGANÇA HOSTED OPEN-AIR CINEMA SESSIONS

Canal N – Notícias – Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro2 September 2026 at 13:28

The cities of Mirandela and Bragança received, on August 20 and 30, two open-air cinema sessions as part of the itinerant initiative «Cinema in the Square Continente». In Mirandela, the session took place at Praça Doutor José Gama, while in Bragança the cinema was set up at Praça Camões.

Both initiatives brought together hundreds of people, among families, groups of friends and spectators of different generations. The film shown was «The Devil Wears Prada 2», one of the most anticipated film releases of the year, providing the audiences of both cities with a night of cinema outside the traditional theaters.

The sessions had the institutional support of the Municipalities of Mirandela and Bragança and were part of a national circuit that has been bringing cinema to different public spaces during the summer. The holding of these sessions allowed the transformation of central spaces of the two cities into meeting and socializing places, bringing a cultural and entertainment proposal outdoors to the population during the summer period.

Chronicle by Paulo Freitas do Amaral evoking childhood memories in Cruz Quebrada, in Oeiras, describing the now nearly extinct habit of "family whistles" - unique sounds each family used to call their children home, especially at dinner time. The author narrates how these sound communications allowed children to play freely in the streets while parents maintained contact at a distance. Despite modern technology having replaced this tradition, the author reveals he still uses his mother's whistle in supermarkets when they lose each other, proving certain habits can survive over time. The text ends with a nostalgic appeal to preserve and transmit this practice to new generations.
