Diário de Coimbra2 September 2026 at 12:54

The village of Vila Nova de Poiares hosts "Operation Chanfana", an event that aims to serve a record quantity of chanfana, a traditional dish from the region. The initiative aims to make history in the local and national gastronomic landscape.

The event celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Confraria da Chanfana, an association that over a quarter of a century has promoted and preserved this typical delicacy of Transmontane cuisine. The confraternity plays a fundamental role in the enhancement and dissemination of this culinary specialty.

The operation has the organization of the municipal council and the confraternity itself, mobilizing the local community towards the goal of breaking a record of servings of chanfana at a single event. The celebration of these 25 years represents an important milestone for the institution and for the preservation of the region's gastronomic traditions.
