Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday classified Germany's decision to directly attribute to Moscow the blame for the incident with explosive-laden drones at an airport in the east of the country as "a serious error." Putin questioned the evidence behind Berlin's conclusions, suggesting that the German government was trying to use the case for other purposes.
Berlin's decision provoked condemnations from the European Union and NATO. The leaders of the European bloc and the Western military alliance promised to increase pressure on the Russian regime and announced diplomatic measures on Wednesday.
Officials close to Putin argued that the Kremlin should take decisive measures against countries directly supporting Ukraine, in response to the German accusation.
