The ZERO environmental association defended today the rejection of the project for the new underground mine at Gavião, located in Aljustrel, in the district of Beja. The association's position comes in the context of an evaluation of the project presented for mining exploration in the region.
ZERO presents three main arguments against the project. First, the association argues that the project "ignores the railway", suggesting that it does not adequately consider train transportation. Second, it points out that the "climate calculations" presented are incorrect. Third, it criticizes that the project will "export ore without a transformation strategy", that is, without local processing.
The project in question is an underground mine at Gavião, in Aljustrel, district of Beja. The mine would be operated by Almina, the company behind the mining investment proposal in that area of the Alentejo. ZERO's position comes as a contribution to the evaluation and decision process regarding the project's viability.
