Benfica reached an agreement for the contract renewal of Tomás Araújo, the Portuguese international defender and regular starter for the team. According to exclusive information from Fabrizio Romano, a transfer market specialist, the defender has just signed a new contract with the Club da Luz, valid until June 2031.
The encarnada board rejected approaches from top clubs in La Liga and the Premier League for the young centre-back, opting to proceed with the renewal. Tomás Araújo had a contract with the eagles until 2029, but the structure led by Rui Costa understood it was necessary to review the player's conditions.
The renewal decision took into account the development shown by Tomás Araújo and the increasingly important role he began to play in the team. The salary situation of the Portuguese international also weighed on the decision, as the centre-back was among those with one of the lowest wages in the squad, a consequence of the contract signed previously.
