Belgium is preparing to install frequency jammers in prisons housing the country's most dangerous inmates. This measure aims to block illegal communications between detainees and the outside, preventing the continuity of coordinated criminal activities from within prison facilities.
The initiative comes in response to a formal request made about a year and a half ago by the King's Prosecutor of Brussels, Julien Moinil, who warned about the risks associated with the uncontrolled use of communication means by the most dangerous prisoners.
The frequency jammers will allow the interruption of mobile phone signals and other electronic devices within the areas where they will be installed, creating zones of communication silence in maximum security wings.
The Belgian authorities consider this tool essential to reinforce internal prison security and hinder the actions of organized criminal networks that use clandestine communication to coordinate operations outside.
