The football federations of Finland, Denmark, and Sweden, three of the countries most critical of Gianni Infantino, sent a letter to the European Union requesting that it become involved with European football. The Nordic federations are requesting that the EU intervene regarding what they consider to be deficiencies in governance, transparency and decision-making within FIFA.
The letter was addressed to the European Commissioner for Equity, Intergenerational, Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef, to whom the Nordic federations are requesting a meeting in Brussels to discuss these issues and find ways to put pressure on FIFA.
These three federations have been particularly outspoken in their opposition to Infantino, who has presided over FIFA since 2016. The Nordic initiative comes in a context of growing tension between European football bodies and the organization that governs world football, led by the Swiss president.
