Tiago Laranjinha, 21 years old, from Chamusca, has been in Houston, United States of America, since August 17 to fight a battle against a rare and highly aggressive cancer. After exhausting treatment options in Portugal, the young man is now awaiting the clinical plan at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
The diagnosis was identified as SMARCB1-deficient sinonasal adenocarcinoma, a particularly rare and aggressive type of cancer. Given the lack of viable alternatives in the Portuguese health system, the family decided to seek treatment at the prestigious North American cancer center.
A solidarity campaign was launched to support the high costs associated with treatment in the United States, including medical expenses, travel, and prolonged stay. Community mobilization has been fundamental in helping Tiago and his family during this difficult time.
